Boating Tuition

Have you ever wondered about how to steer a narrowboat, or how to take a boat through a lock?

Maybe these questions have made you a bit anxious about hiring a canal boat yourself and taking all the responsibility for steering, mooring, turning round etc.

On Lizzie-Jean you only do what you want to do on your canal cruise - the skipper does the rest, but he'll be very happy to teach you "the ropes" if you're interested!

(see 'Cruises and Costs' page for info on Boating Tuition)

Skippered canal cruises on narrowboat Lizzie-Jean normally start from the centre of Skipton, on the famous Leeds  and Liverpool Canal.  You can select from a variety of slow, gentle cruises either northwest towards the picturesque Yorkshire Dales village of Gargrave, or south to Farnhill Wood and the villages of Bradley and Kildwick.

Thousands of visitors come to this part of North Yorkshire each year, and many are keen to have a boat trip on the 235 year old engineering marvel that is the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.  Are you among them?

Or maybe you're arranging an unforgettable outing for a  special celebration?

Perhaps  you just fancy a gentle cruise through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside, with either your own picnic/buffet lunch and choice of drinks, or lunch at a canalside inn?
